it must be summer/'cause the days are long

I really don't know what to say. My weekend wasn't all that great, but at least it's summer, right? That just makes everything wonderful.

The Snow Patrol concert was yesterday and it was so great!

Adam and his friend were driving in from Ottawa, and Rebecca made this plan where he'd pick us up at my house, and then we'd go out for dinner in like, China Town, and then we'd make our way to the concert. So while Rebecca was getting dressed, I was chilling in her room listening to her freak out about how she really didn't want to eat dinner with them. She thought Adam was the biggest freak and so I made a list of ice breakers/conversation starters to get us through the night.

But then Adam and his friend (Kyle) got stuck in traffic, so they only came to pick us up at like, 6:30, so we forgot about dinner and tried to get to the venue. OKAY. We went fifteen minutes past LaRonde before someone said, "Uh, I think we missed the turn." Yeah, they were right. So we drove around for like an hour. (Hah, when I first got into the car, I looked down, and there were two half-empty bottles of tequila on the floor. I tried really hard not to freak out. Also, Kyle was smoking something that did not look like a cigarette. The paper around it was all brown, and it sort of smelled like a strawberry. I don't know anything about this stuff.) Anyhoo. We got really lost and it was really awkward and then we found parking in some garage somewhere and we parked and then walked to the venue. And we got there and pushed our way to the front.

People from school saw me (Stacy, Alix, Arielle, and Arielle's sister) and they came and said hi which was nice of them. I was looking to see if I knew anyone and I so didn't see them. But meh. Then Silversun Pickups came on and they were alright. I really enjoyed it when the girl in the band would sing, because I liked her voice the best.

Next was Ok Go! They were so cool. They had these videos being projected onto a screen behind them which was annoying as fuck. I found that they were really trying too hard to be "gimmicky". I don't know. I still really enjoyed them even though they didn't play A Million Ways or You're So Damn Hot. They did play Oh Lately It's So Quiet, which is my love.

SNOW PATROL! Alright, I wasn't a huge fan BEFORE the concert, but now I for sure am. Seriously. They sounded great, their lyrics are amazing and they just put on a really good show. I must get some Snow Patrol now. My favorite songs of the night: Chocolate, Hands Open (was that the name?), Set Fire to the Third Bar (a girl from the audience replaced Martha Wainwright), and something else I can't remember. But every song was beautiful. And they played for so long and I never wanted it to end. Also, the lead singer was pretty to look at.

And we almost partied with Snow Patrol. Okay, I don't really know what that means, but Adam met some of his Ottawa people (just randomly) and they were like, "Yeah, after we're going to party with Snow Patrol. Wanna come?" And Adam turned to Rebecca, who was next to him and said, "Uh. Yeah we're partying with Snow Patrol after." But we actually couldn't, because Adam and Kyle had to go home because Kyle had to work this morning. His job is to stand at the bottom of the chairlift and make sure people get on properly. So if we had gone to meet them, there for sure would have been a headline in the newspaper that said, "80 People Pile Up At the Bottom of Chairlift." You know it's true.

Hm, then the concert ended, we started driving home, we didn't get lost. Then we stopped and ate pizza at one in the morning and it was so much fun. I honestly enjoyed hanging out with Adam and his friend, which is really a good thing, because I'd only ever been in Adam's presence for half an hour tops, but I've spoken to him almost every day on MSN since. And Kyle was not awkward at all.

Then they drove us home and we went to sleep. It was so much fun. I don't know what Rebecca was freaking out about. Hm, I hope we can all organize that again.

The concert was amazing (as you can see in the 92831 million videos I posted out of excitement!). I was really close to the stage. Rebecca was getting so angry at me because she didn't want to stand the whole time and her feet were hurting her and I was just like, "SHUT UP. You'll be happy in a minute." So then I just talked to her for half an hour while she was grumpy and angry.

Then the Shins came on and she was so excited that she took my hand and bit it, which wasn't that nice, but your judgement gets skewed right before you see the Shins live, I guess. And so they were amazing. Me and Becca had this list of songs that we wanted them to play (it was in our heads). And on it was: Know Your Onion!, Girl Inform Me, Australia, So Says I, and Caring Is Creepy. Well, THEY PLAYED THEM ALL. AND SO SAYS I WAS THE LAST SONG. It was so perfect. And Adam is sending me his pictures, and he filmed two of the songs. You can never have enough videos.

Anyway, after the concert ended, I was going to find Alix, because we sort of lost her right after Viva Voce played (and they were so good! If anyone has their cd, upload it please? Haha. If not, I'll buy it.) I found Alix at the back of the room, and I she said hi to this guy that came to Model UN to answer questions but nobody asked any questions, so I said hi to him. And she said, "How do you two know each other?" And the guy said, "We dated in the seventies." It was pretty funny. Um, then Alix met Adam. Then she dragged me out of there, (as in, she went to the coat check and got my coat for me so that we could leave faster). But before she made me leave, I bought a shirt and it's beautiful.

And I ran back in to tell Adam to call me if he wanted to hang out tomorrow (which was Saturday). But he was going back to Ottawa because his back hurt and his heating pad was there. So I informed him that he was an old man.

This was all really exciting, and I don't even know what my parents are going to say when I'm going to tell them that I'm going to do this all over again in two Fridays for Snow Patrol. They'll deal. Maybe me and Becca will subway there if there's a station near the place. Who knows.

Anyway, everybody go listen to/see the Shins. Please.

My life is boring.

BUT TOMORROW I AM GOING TO SEE THE SHINS!!!

I'm going to see them with Alix, and Rebecca wants to come. Um... Yes, so I have to buy her a ticket online using her dad's credit card number because he trusts me with it and not his daughter. Love that family. Anyway, we shall be on ticketpro.ca after school today, fulfilling Rebecca's dream.

And, I'm also going to see Damien Rice, all the way in May with Sneu. WE ARE SO COOL.

I'd also like to see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah with Rebecca in April. This part is so not happening.

Oh, yes. I got the leftover ticket for Snow Patrol and Ok Go at the end of March.

I AM TURNING INTO SUCH A CONCERT WHORE IT HURTS. And there goes all my birthday money since I was like, 2. It's worth it.

(To people who don't know me: I'm not usually such a spender on concerts, or anything for that matter, but I decided that since I spent the entire school year so far holding back from shaving my head so that I wouldn't have to waste time shampooing AND conditioning in the shower and who knows what my head looks like under my hair? What if it's yellow? ANYWAY. I decided that I would enjoy some things. And the Ben Lee concert was awesome. And my mom always tells me that I'm the cheapest kid ever. And the concerts aren't all that expensive compared to other concerts. My parents should be glad that I like indie rock and not like, Justin Timberlake (who, according to Wikipedia, is a hipster because he breached the divide between time and space, I kid you not. It's gone now, so there's no proof of how funny the world really is.) Okay, I'm rambling.)

Hm, so what happened to me yesterday?

I tried out for the girls football team. I decided to try out for offense, since I am really not interested in being a wall. Seriously. I wanted to do something that took skill.

Anyway, all the people in ninth and tenth grade who tried out for offense got on, except for me, who got put on defense. So I wrote to the coach, asking if I'm only going to play defense the whole season. And he said, "You'll be playing both. Depends where you're needed. You worked on offense today, so you'll be working on that too. [Other coach] usually has 2 offensive lines, so you'll be on one of them. I'll have two defensive lines as well, so you'll be one one too. The truth is that you're incredibly tall, and it's really an asset on both offense and defense. We'll be using you a lot!"

One thing: HOW TALL DO THEY THINK I AM?! They seem to have this idea that I'm some sort of giantess (word?) or a building, but I'm only 5'8!

Anyway, now I have to decide whether I really want to be on the team. I feel that I have to ability to be good on offense, but I played like crap yesterday, and I'm actually a little surprised I got on the team. (Meanwhile, my sister played amazingly (word? I'm so creative today!) and is not on the team and cried about that for like, an hour. She was great and she really deserves a spot on the team. It's honestly an injustice.) SO: spend the season [most probably] acting as a wall (who knows how much offense I'll get to play), or not be on the team at all.

GUIDANCE PLEASE. And it would help to hear an inspirational "I was the underdog but I won the championship while that Queen song played in the background and then they carried me like I was Keating in Dead Poets Society and that just about made my life" story.

So, this is a little digusting and quite possibly in the category if 'Too Much Information' but my retainers don't fit my mouth anymore. It's weird. It's not really the bottom one as much as the top one, but they're both really irritating.

I'm trying to think of all the times I stepped on/sat on my retainers in the past like, 24 hours. And I can't. And I have been wearing my retainers, so it's not like my teeth have moved. They also wouldn't be able to move that quicky. Haha, it's like, "YAY! I have sprinting teeth! They can beat yours in the 0.000000000000001 nanometer dash!" Also, all of this retainer not fitting my mouth properly business is making my teeth hurt. But only the top ones on the left side of my mouth. I guess that means I'm chewing on the other side tonight.

Why do I think about these things so much? It's such a waste of time. And at the moment, I have 15 pages of history to note take (a term meaning: take notes on) and I just took notes on 30 pages so it's actually making my brain turn into smoosh.

Also, my grandma bought me food. And she didn't buy my sister any so I have to hide it in the fridge.

It's a lovely day!

Dear Hayley,
Thanks for inviting me to your party. Even though I didn't know anyone, I still had a really good time. I cannot believe that Pepper actually came. It was cool to meet the people I've seen you talk to on MSN. For the bazillionth time, I CANNOT WAIT FOR CAMP! I apologize for being so quiet and loser-ish. I’m not that great in social situations.

Dear Pepper,
You were a dick. No thank you to you for being no fun, randomly walking away, and leaving the party without saying goodbye to anyone. See you at camp, because I know that you’ll ditch us anytime we get together before then.

Dear Girl Who Crashed The Party And Proceeded to Make Out With That Guy,
You crashed the party and proceeded to make out with that guy. Where is your pride?

Dear Luke Who Hayley Used To Like But Now Just Plays Tennis With And By The Way She Kicks Your Ass,
You listen to good music. It sucks that it took four hours for me to realize that you were into the Shins and the Arcade Fire. I suck at timing.

Dear Me,
WHY ARE YOU SO SOCIALLY AWKWARD?!

Dear Psychic Palm Reader,
How did you predict things before you bought your deck of cards?

I JUST FINISHED MY MATH CHEAT SHEET/MEMORY AID!

So, 2 exams down, 6 to go. Very exciting! Hebrew went really well. Even though I didn't answer any practice questions about any of the fifty billion stories on the exam, I knew all the answers to the questions that were asked. And I understood the unprepared story. It was about Yitzhak Pearlman. A violinist, which I didn't know until after the exam, but I knew he had something to do with music. I was actually leaning towards him being a violinist, because you either play the piano or the violin, and the word "phenster" was not in the story. So, HA!

French listening was hysterical. It's always about someone with a disability, or their pets. This time, it was an interview with a guy who trains seeing-eye dogs for the blind. Perfect. They said the word "pouponnerie" five billion times in the span of three seconds, and it wasn't even useful information. They spent five minutes just saying, "Oh, were my directions to the place good?" "Oh, yes! They were very helpful! Thank you!" Honestly, who cares? Just give me the answer already!

Then I went to the mall for lunch with Rebecca and her play-friend Emily, and it was really fun. Emily kept saying things, so I'd give her a look, and she'd go, "Don't worry. I'm kidding." That happened about a thousand times, I kid you not. Then me and Rebecca took a bus to a street, missed the next bus and walked all the way home. My toes were cold.

And since it was my grandma's birthday on Thursday, I went to her house for dinner, where I drank champagne (disgusting, but it was from Odessa, which is where my grandma's father is from, so party!). And we watched America's Funniest Home Videos. Clips of people trying to catch something and falling into a mud puddle make me laugh more than they should.

I also had the amazing pleasure of watching the Scrubs episode called "My Monster" with my parents. In case you missed it, there's this storyline where JD's peep is on the fritz. Or should I say, Peepee LeFritz is having some trouble with his manhood. It was hysterical, as in,

- "Rise and shine!"

- "What's up?"
- "EVERYTHING IS UP!"

- "How's your penis?"
- -- Who sent out a memo? Oh, wait. It's Todd. He says that to everyone. --
- "Hey Dr. Goldman. How's your penis?"
- -- Phew. --

- "Are you really excited, or is that just a roll of quarters in your pocket?"
- "Actually, it's a roll of quarters. Laundry day!"

So, I laughed. The episode also ended with some mad sexage going out between JD and Elliott. I mean. Whoa. Mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad sexing. Try watching that with your MOTHER. I mean, I should be over it by now, but ::shudders::

Today I studied math. I talked to Rivelle, Miranda and myself. I listened to a lot of music while creating my shrine to math 436, also known as the Cheat Sheet/"Memory Aid thing the teachers think makes us look better than people who cheat off a paper they bring into their exam with them." Yeah, cheat sheets are so superior to memory aids. We don't need aid with memorizing. We just need a good cheat once in a while.

Also, we need Regina Spektor. A lot of Regina Spektor.

Can I write cheet sheet? I type it so much more naturally than the actual spelling.

[/gets a life]

Haha, just kidding. I'd never do that to myself.

Today me and YRH tried to buy tickets for the Arcade Fire concert(s) coming up in February. We failed. We met in the bathroom during science to call this box office that only opened at 12:00, but they didn't have tickets either. Isn't it amazing that there are five concerts and they sold out within a maximum of two hours?

Katrina, I won't be seeing you and Julian there. Next time!

Hm, so what's been up?

- Last night, I finished watching Garden State. Wow. Lots of people who wrote online reviews said things like, "It was extremely poser-ish wanna-be indie stuff and it just tried way to hard. I'm going to go slit my throat because of how much it sucked. Bye." But you know what? Screw those people and their elitist attitudes. I liked the movie for what it was, and not what it was trying to be. Anyway, by the end of it, I was crying, so I was really glad that I was the only one at home and then I rewinded (rewound?) it and started watching it again. Then I started to watch it again with my dad last night. Obviously, the movie is a little sketchy until he meets Sam, but the feeling at the end outweighed the numbness at the beginning, so I guess that's what the movie is really all about, right?

- Also, it had an awesome soundtrack. Does anyone have it and want to upload it for me? Please? I'll upload something in return. I have lots of stuff. Just ask.

- Exams start in a week. Let's review my schedual:

December 15
AM - Hebrew, 2.5 hours
PM - French listening, 2 hours

December 18
AM - Math, 3 hours

December 19
AM - French reading, 2 hours
PM - French writing, 2 hours

December 20
AM - Physics, 3 hours (starts at 8:30)
PM - Physics lab, 1 hour and 10 minutes, (starts at 12:30)

December 21
HAHAHA NO EXAMS

December 22
AM - Science, 2 hours

Like, why? After I get back from winter break, I have a French speaking exam and a History essay writing exam. Thesis statements and all. Why? Do teachers get a peverse pleasure out of making us work our asses off from September 1st until December 22nd, only to begin testing us again IMMEDIATELY after we return from a nice, well-deserved holiday? When did my time become so precious that I can't even sit and watch an episode of House for an hour? I feel like it just happened overnight. One day I went to sleep and had a nightmare, and I never woke up. I got a cold a couple weeks ago, and it took me three whole weeks to kick it because I never get enough sleep for it to actually be healthy. And I don't even go to bed that late, compared to all my friends. These are supposed to be the best years of your life, and I can't even enjoy them.

Ah, fuck. I have to finish some stupid science project on titanium. And I'm cold.

I need a hug.

I MET BEN LEE!

John Ralston was like, stoned.

Rooney was really great. They played 'Blueside', which is the one that they performed in The Princess Diaires (shut up! It's a funny movie!) when there were Smarties on the keyboard.

Ben Lee was wearing a gold suit. Can you say sex god? He's amazing live, and I got to take a picture with him after the show.

And they didn't have any Ben Lee or Rooney shirts because they didn't want to pay tax when they brought them over the border. Oh well.

I met cool people. Irena, who I will not keep in touch with, and Adam, who was very cool. We listen to like, all the same music. But he doesn't like Ben Lee. I'll forgive him.

I need to go to more concerts...
